Poison Control Center will release their new double-album Sad Sour Future through Afternoon Records on May 18th. The new video was shot in the band's home digs of Ames, IA by Andrew Roger. Horns, cowbells, and jangly guitars...just the way you like it!
As an general lover of all things Jim James/My Morning Jacket, I must admit that the Monsters Of Folk project (Conor Oberst, Jim James, M. Ward, Mike Mogis) has left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Beyond their KISS cover band antics, I've barely felt any desire to pay attention. Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.), however, is one of the more enjoyable tracks from their 2009 release...maybe mainly because it is pretty obvious that Jim James wrote the song and takes the lead on it.
This new video, for the track, was directed by Lauri Faggioni, who has previously directed similarly styled work for Devendra Banhart, Iron & Wine, and Bright Eyes.
We recently featured Andy D on Laundromatinee.com. I've talked about this guy a lot, and locals of course love him, but I got a load of emails once you people out there in the interebs actually got a good hard look at this dude in action.
Two other locals, we are totally into, Mike B. & OhBeOne, were recently featured on MOKB's The Bounce. We believed they were kindred spirits before, but are now sure of it. The duo took a stab at remixing Andy D's classic party song, God Loves Drunk Chicks this week...
Irish trio, Two Door Cinema Club are poised for a big Summer. Signed to Glassnote Records, home to Phoenix, and with a similarly catchy-pop sound. Tourist History is the latest album, and it is full of grabbers like this...
San Francisco DJ Wait What released his Notorious B.I.G. vs. The xx mashtape this past week. Thanks to our homie Rachel Rubes for sendin it our way. This all sorts of rules...
Katy of Vivian Girls has teamed up with Gregg Foreman of Cat Power to create All Saints Day. This new track is beyond fuzzed out. No word yet on how/when/where the project will release this and assumed other new tunes.
Tune in now for My Old Kentucky Blog Radio on SIRIUS XMU! Channel 26 on SIRIUS & channel 43 on XM. The program started at 12pm ET, last two hours, and is replayed again at Midnight ET!
For you non-Indianapolis residents, The Local Music Git Down was an all-day celebration, at Locals Only Art & Music Pub, that gathered 14 of our favorite bands and 6 DJ, all based in Indianapolis or Bloomington, Indiana. We rocked for 15 straight hours, until many of us could barely stand. While the concert perfomances raged, in a vacant, neighboring building we filmed sessions with all 14 of the bands that performed during the day.
If vikings time-travelled to the 80s, took semen samples from Grandmaster Flash, Beastie Boys, Michael Jackson, Prince and Poison, came back to the present, inseminated Peaches, and then brought her to the future to have the baby and have it raised by breakdancing robot wolves, you might end up with Andy D. Andy D is a hurricane of sex, sweat, and day-glo. He burst onto the Indianapolis scene a little more than a year ago, after moving down to Bloomington via Brooklyn. His live shows immediately became the stuff of legend. Combining rap, rock, and comedy, Andy D is best experienced in flesh rather than talked about.
We won't have him forever Indianapolis, but that's ok, the world needs Andy D.
Head down to The Vollrath tonight and catch Burnt Ones + Downtown Struts. Burnt Ones will release the All Night Long 7" next month, on April 15th, at Locals Only. The 7" includes three tracks, full of washed out Indianapolis echo-sleaze bubblegum psych-rock, and will only cost you five bucks. No cover and $1 beer all night!
There really is only one place to be tonight. Here in Indianapolis, for the past 20 years, NUVO has been one of the longest-running and greatest supporters of music, art, film, food, culture, and MyOldKentuckyBlog.com. They've helped us, and this city, tremendously and we love them for it.
Tonight at Talbott St., we celebrate with Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and The Leisure Kings, Twin Peaks, Jackola, and the A SquaredDJs. There will also be special performances by The Ladies of Legends and Crème Des Le Femme Burleseque. The whole event will be hosted by Lord of the Yum Yum.
You should have purchased your tickets in advance for less, but they are still only $7 tonight at the door. Feel good knowing that one dollar from every ticket sold will benefit Second Helpings.

Today the band released this new kung-fu video for the single...
